Our cars today are equipped with powerful computers and sensors that are capable of detecting almost every problem inside the car, which helps our expert technicians diagnose exactly what's wrong with your car quickly and easily.
However, all of those indicators on your dashboard can be scary and make you panic if you don't know what they mean.
Below is our guide to help you understand what those indicators mean, and what to do when they turn on.

What to do when your check engine light turns on:

The check engine light can be scary, but it's important to know that when this light turns on it is not an emergency. Your car will be able to continue running, and you do not need to panic.

There are a number of reasons why your check engine like may come on. The first and most common reason is a problem with your car's gas cap. If your gas cap is unscrewed, left loose or faulty this can cause the check engine light to turn on. So this should be the first thing to check.

If your gas cap appears to be fine then your check engine like is probably on for another reason, which may range anywhere from a faulty ignition coil, a failing catalytic converter, or a worn out spark plug. If you don't know what any of those are that's fine. Your car is not about to self-destruct! It does mean that you should have your car looked at and diagnosed by an expert Lexus Technician as soon as you can.

What to do when your tire pressure light turns on:

When our tire pressure light turns on we all naturally assume it's the worst-case scenario; a flat tire. However, this indicator does not necessarily mean that you need to pull over and change a tire.

Our tires are each equipped with sensors that monitor their air pressure. When the air pressure in one or more of our tires drops below the ideal level the car will let you know via the tire pressure light. If your vehicle is equipped with a full size spare you will need to check this tire as well and make sure it is inflated with the proper pressure.

If you notice that one of your tires is flat or if you notice an abnormal bounce on one side of your car then you will need to change your tire. If this is the case, then after changing the tire, it is important that you bring the damaged tire to a Lexus Technician in order to determine repair or replacement options.

However, there are a number of other things that can cause this light to turn on. Rapid changes in temperature can cause the pressure in our tires to drop or rise. So if your tire pressure light turns on but you do not have a flat tire, all you need to do have a professional check your tire pressure or check it manually at the nearest gas station with an air pump. The proper PSI that your tires should be inflated too can be found on the driver front door inner pillar. If the tire pressure light continues to turn on after you have refilled your tires then there may be a small leak in the tire, and you should have it.

What to do if your maintenance required light turns on:

The maintenance required light functions as a friendly reminder that your car is due for a routine maintenance. It is programmed to turn on every 5,000 miles, and is reset by your Lexus Technician every time your car is brought in for service.

So when you see your maintenance required light on call your Lexus dealership to schedule an appointment for service.
